Florida licensed investigators have reciproicty and can conduct
investigations in: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado,
Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan,
Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North
Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota,
Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, and Wyoming. Florida has five types of investigative licenses. They are as listed below: For Individuals: - "C"- Private Investigator
- "CC"- Private Investigator Intern
- "M" or "MA"- Manager of a Private Investigative Agency
For Agencies: - "A"- Private Investigative Agency
- "AA"- Private Investigative Agency Branch Office

Qualifications and Requirements:Be at least 18 years of age
Be
a citizen of the United States or a legal resident of the United States
or have been granted authority to work by the U.S. Bureau of
Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS)
Have no disqualifying criminal history
Be of good moral character
Have no disqualifying history of mental illness or alcohol or controlled substance abuse
When
the application is received, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement
and the Federal Bureau of Investigation perform a criminal history
record check to determine if the applicant has a criminal history which
will disqualify him or her from licensure
The applicant must provide the following: - Name
- Date of birth
- Social security number
- Place of birth
- Residence addresses for the past five years
- Occupations for the past five years
- Statement of all criminal convictions
- Statement whether he or she has been adjudicated incompetent or committed to a mental institution
- Statement regarding any history of alcohol or controlled substance abuse
- Two full-face color photographs
- Full set of prints on the Division's fingerprint card
- Personal inquiry waiver
- Appropriate fees
Disqualifications:"In-house"
private investigators who are solely, exclusively, and regularly
employed as an investigator in connection with the business of an
employer that does not advertise or provide investigative services for
a fee
Active law enforcement officers while engaged in his or her official duties
Insurance investigators or adjusters licensed by the Florida Department of Insurance
Those
who exclusively furnish investigative information about the financial
standing, habits, and responsibilities of applicants for insurance,
indemnity bonds or commercial credit
Attorneys in the regular practice of their profession
Banks, credit unions, loan companies, and consumer credit reporting agencies
Persons holding professional licenses in Florida when providing expert advice in their professions
Those providing investigative services solely and exclusively for any United States agency
Reciprocity:The following states allow reciprocity with Florida:
- California
- Georgia
- Louisiana
- North Carolina
- Oklahoma
- Tennessee
- Virginia
Fees:Fees for Agencies are $450.00.
Fees for Private Investigators are $167.00.
Fees for Interns are $152.00.
Renewal Information:Renewal fees for Agencies are $450.00
Renewal fees for Private Investigators are $75.00
Renewal fees for Interns are $60.00
