Qualifications Requirement:
Be at least eighteen years of age; is of good moral character
Have passed a written examination as prescribed by the department
Have at least three years’ experience within the last five years in investigative work or a level of experience determined to be sufficient by the department
Have not been convicted of a felony offense involving moral turpitude or the illegal use or possession of a deadly weapon

Reciprocity: The state of New Mexico does not have reciprocity agreements with any other states.

Fees: Initial application: $100.00
First examination: $50.00
Second and subsequent examinations: $75.00

Renewal Information: Renewal application: $100.00
The License expires on June 30th of every odd numbered year.
