This can include any pictures or videos with a minor in the act of any sexually-oriented behavior, with or without the knowledge of the victim. A minor cannot legally consent to any such activities.

Being that there are so many variations in crimes against minors such as molestation, child pornography, prostitution and computer solicitation, there should not be any jurisdictional conflicts amongst agencies that are trying to get the same outcome. Many agencies are unable to complete a full investigation due to jurisdiction boundaries, which can potentially slow down the process of indicting, prosecuting and sentencing.

Sexual exploitation of a minor is prohibited in any way shape or form. This includes being in possession of explicit photos or videos. An offender can be charged with the same charges being in possession as an offender that took the photographs or video. By purchasing such material or transporting it with the knowledge of minors engaging in a lewd act can get someone a jail sentence.

A young person that has been violated in this way, whether by stranger or a person they know may have long term psychological problems. Some of the more concerning issues are physical health, mental health and trust. It is essential in the recovery process for the victim to know that they were not at fault. It is often a good choice to seek counseling for not only the victim but the family, as the child may be withdrawn and trying to suppress their feelings. Family members also are affected by these traumatic events, often without knowing, treating the victim differently after all has been brought to light.
